Spring Break

We kicked off spring break by waking up super early Monday morning to drive to Enchanted Rock State Park. This is where we were supposed to camp last weekend, but we got rained out.

Still going on the hike, rain or not.

Enchanted Rock is literally a giant rock bubble just growing straight up from the ground.

Lots to climb on.

The mist and fog gave us fantastic views of Texas Hill Country.

I have to sneak pictures of Bennett when I can.

Made it to the top! (it’s like .8 miles 😂)

There are some caves at the top that you’re obviously not supposed to go inside…

…we spent a lot of time exploring the caves.

Because we’re classy like that.

The way down was super slippery because of all the moisture and we had lots of screaming and falling and laughing from us and everyone around us. When we got to the bottom a park ranger was there closing down all the trails, so we planned it just right.

The bluebonnets are coming. Be watching for a picture of our family in a field of these at some point (haha!)

After hiking we stopped at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg.

All of these buildings were so fun to walk through. I want a hearth like this.

This is a picture of Callahan, but at one point Bennett locked Kennedy in an outhouse similar this for like, five minutes and we had no idea. I’m not sure how she got out, but she was NOT happy about it.

Bennett is generally unimpressed with us.

Before heading home from Fredericksburg, we stopped at the department of public safety (for the second time this week) to get our drivers licenses from grumpy overworked government employees. Matt and I got ours (finally!!) but Bennett has to retake the driving test before they will give him his. That will make three times of us needing to go back here before we are all official Texas drivers. I’m so glad this hoop jumping is almost over.

Bennett and I got a case of the giggles while we were sitting at the ladies’s desk (for over two hours). I don’t think she appreciated us.

These beauties get to follow us for the next EIGHT years. I’m so glad the timing of waking up super early to hike a rock coincided nicely with this appointment.

Back at the gym.

Our bedroom is starting to look like a bedroom instead of a dumping grounds for homeless items. It’s a big deal. (PS: what are your thoughts on that wood on the ceiling? I think I’m going to wallpaper over it. This room came with some interesting design challenges…)

We spent a day swimming and kayaking on the Guadalupe River in a beautiful park. This is the first spring break we’ve had in a long time that has actually felt like spring. Don’t tell Bennett. He’s having a hard time parting ways with his winter vests and jackets.

Patton still lets me take pictures of him sometimes.

Callahan is back in her happy place: water.

Cypress trees are my new favorite.

Kennedy had a hard time letting go 😂 She finally figured it out after about three or four tries.

Patton got cool lights for his room.

Actually, we all worked really hard this week to get things decorated and put up just the way we want it. Today as I’m writing this is the first time since we’ve moved here that I don’t feel like I need to buy a million components for this house. I think we are finally content to just be for a little bit. And that’s a good feeling.

It feels like home.

We finally set up our trampoline. To celebrate, the girls and I decided to sleep on it. Here we are at the beginning of the night.

And here we are at 3:30 AM after moving into the girls bedroom because everybody was freezing and nobody was sleeping.

It was a long night.

I THREW AWAY OUR LAST MOVING BOX THIS WEEK!
And yes, we rented a dumpster for our front yard for the next few weeks. It was easier and cheaper than constantly filling trailers and driving to the dump.

Because we’re classy like that.

Date night with Matt at Lowe’s and then Taco Bell.
Because we’re classy like that.

Callahan‘s tadpoles are growing.
And there is always some kind of lizard or snail or giant beetle in a bucket somewhere from Callahan’s forest adventures.

Because we’re classy like that.

Yesterday we went to brunch at Wafflelicious.

The best Eggs Benedict waffles I have ever eaten.
I’ll never be able to eat waffles the same again.
 Seriously.
So.
Good.

After brunch, the boys and Matt went to be fitted for their first official suits not purchased off Temu or Amazon.

Because we’re classy like that
(but actually. These boys clean up nice!)

Patton is a fan of the fancy.

We realized on Friday that it was Tripp‘s birthday. He’s officially four years old. Kennedy decided we would have a birthday party for him on Saturday.

Happy birthday, Tripp! He really is the best boy. I think he enjoyed eating that hamburger off of the birthday plate at our kitchen table.

Because we’re classy like that.

The pool is starting to feel good.
Bring on Summer!
