Young Men’s Camp and Whatever the Rest of Us were Doing
Bennett and Patton both had Young Men’s camp this week (when the boys in our church 12-18 years old go camping.) Matt was supposed to go with them, but he had to stay for Police Academy 😢 He did lots of the planning and sent these two off very prepared.
Ready to head to Big Bend National Park!
They camped along the Rio Grande River and had stunning views of Mexico for the week.
Lots of male bonding.
Hiking views.
I never saw a picture of Patton with his shirt on. The temperatures were in the 100s most days.
I never saw a picture of Bennett with his shirt off and he wore this neck protector scarf the entire time.
The boys are on either end in this picture. The river and mud seem to have been a highlight. They also did lots of hiking and playing games. Since Matt didn’t go this time I don’t have a very thorough rundown. But they both seem to have had a great week. I’m glad they got to go.
While the boys were gone and Matt was at school it was just me and the girls. We did a lot of things the boys wouldn’t have liked, so we had a great time!
This is the cutest little ice cream shop in our town that also sells plants. We got one to replace Greg and hopefully it lives. We also got two for my shower window. If I can’t keep plants alive in my shower, then I’m just going to give up.
The ice cream here was so yummy, and I don’t even really like ice cream!
We also went to the library, the dollar store for makeup, packed Kennedy for Young Women’s camp (this upcoming week) and went thrift store shopping. Callahan found a wheelchair, but her lame mom said no.
PetSmart was also a hot place to visit this week. Callahan has decided she is going to get a bird. She’s been working and saving up her money. So far she has the cage and the accessories. Now she just needs the bird to go inside of it. My phone is FULL of pictures like this, and all of us are really tired of listening to bird facts and tips and tricks on how to train and care for them. At least we know she will be prepared when she finally gets one.
Summer nights are the best.
Not pictured: I redesigned our whole house based on the principle of feng shui. We have very healthy chi now.
Sunday nature walk.
Patton decided to stay home, but the rest of us worked up a pretty great sweat on this trail. We need to start going later in the evening to hide from the sun more. We are becoming quite the night owls since moving here.
The three of us slept on the trampoline. It was seriously so enjoyable. I love warm nights and the sound of cicadas. The only downside was waking up with 1 million mosquito bites. I’ll still do it again.
Matt also advanced rank in his class again. I still don’t know what he is but I know he is the leader now (he just told me it’s called “Class Sargent”) Again, he is unexcited. It’s basically just extra work. But he’s doing it. This next week he has a BUNCH of tests and then he is headed into Phase 2. We might actually make it. Every day is one day closer!
Have a great week!
